Metabolism School Introduction Part 2

Metabolic Compensation & Willpower

Metabolic Compensation

The metabolism is like a see-saw, boomerang, pendulum or yo-yo. Perhaps the best way to think of it is like a thermostat

One of the most important things you need to understand about the metabolism is the way it responds to deprivation. When you diet, the metabolism compensates. It pushes back against you by doing two things:

  1. It elevates hunger, makes energy unpredictable and increases craving. This is known as HEC (hunger energy and cravings) and is pronounced heck. If you want to know if the metabolism is compensating it is all about HEC going out of check.
  2. It lowers your metabolic rate.

Being able to quickly identify when you are in metabolic compensation is one of the most important things you can do.
